Any changes to these Terms and Conditions will be noted by indicating the date these Terms and Conditions were last made. Any changes will become effective no earlier than fourteen (14) days after they are posted; provided, however, that changes addressing new functions of the Services or changes made for legal reasons will be effective immediately. Your use or continued use of the Services after the date any such changes become effective shall constitute your express acceptance of the Terms and Conditions as changed, amended or modified.

Users between the ages of 13 and 17, can use the Services with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years of age; provided, however, that such parent or legal guardian agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, and agrees to be responsible for such use of the Services. Company reserves the right to refuse use of the Services to anyone and to reject, cancel, interrupt, remove or suspend any Campaign, Donation, or the Services at any time for any reason without liability.

Definitions: In these Terms and Conditions "Campaign Organizers" means those raising funds, and "Campaigns" as their fundraising campaigns. Additionally, "Donors" means those contributing funds, and "Donations" as the funds they contribute. Campaign Organizers, Donors and other visitors to the Services are referred to collectively as "Users". The term "Campaign Organizers" shall also be deemed to include any individual(s) designated as a beneficiary of Campaigns.

Services: The Services are offered as a platform (the "Platform") to Users of the Services. Among other features, the Services are designed to allow Campaign Organizers to post Campaigns to the Platform to accept Donations from Donors. Although there are no fees to set up Campaigns, a portion of each Donation will be charged as fees for our Services and those of our third party payment processors. Company reserves the right to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Services with or without notice. You agree that Company will not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance thereof. The Company has no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any data or other content maintained or uploaded by the Services. In addition, downloading, installing, or using certain Services may be prohibited or restricted by your carrier, and not all Services may work with all carriers or devices. By using the Services, you agree that we may communicate with you regarding Company and other entities by SMS, MMS, text message or other electronic means to your mobile device and that certain information about use of the Services may be communicated to us.

Charitable Giving: Campaigns are not charities to which you can make tax-deductible charitable contributions. Any Donation you make through the Platform may be processed by an unaffiliated business partner for which a processing fee (in addition to our FrontRunner Professional Fee) is deducted. Company retains a portion of each Donation contributed to Campaigns in the amount of four percent (4%) ("FrontRunner Professional Fee"). A portion of the Donation is payable to our third party payment processors ("Processing Fee"). We reserve the right to change any of the Fees from time to time. If we change any of the Fees, we will provide notice of the change on the Website or otherwise, at our option, at least fourteen (14) days before the change is to take effect. To the extent you are a resident of another jurisdiction, you waive any comparable statute or doctrine

During the arbitration, the amount of any settlement offer made by Company or you shall not be disclosed to the arbitrator until after the arbitrator determines the amount, if any, to which you or Company is entitled.

The arbitration will be governed by the Commercial Arbitration Rules and the Supplementary Procedures for Consumer Related Disputes (collectively, "AAA Rules") of the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"), as modified by this Terms and Conditions, and will be administered by the AAA. The AAA Rules are available online at, by calling the AAA at 1-800-778-7879, or by writing to the Notice Address. The arbitrator is bound by the terms of this Terms and Conditions. All issues are for the arbitrator to decide, including, but not limited to, issues relating to the scope, enforceability, and arbitrability of the arbitration provision. Unless Company and you agree otherwise, any arbitration hearings will take place in Chicago, Illinois. Regardless of the manner in which the arbitration is conducted, the arbitrator shall issue a reasoned written decision sufficient to explain the essential findings and conclusions on which the award is based. YOU AND COMPANY AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN YOUR OR ITS INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. Unless both you and Company agree otherwise in writing, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims, and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this specific provision is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this arbitration provision shall be null and void.

Larochelle, Gilles Joseph

It is with profound sadness that the family of Gilles Joseph Larochelle announce his passing on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the age of 75. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his children, the love of his family and the incredibly compassionate staff at Providence Care Hospital. He will always be lovingly remembered and missed by his son Glen, daughter Aline, and grandson Brooks. Dear brother of Jean Guy Larochelle (Lorraine), Dorothy (Jean-Jaques), Micheline (Gilles), and Lyne (Louis), uncle of many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Aline Larochelle.

Tenderly known as 'Papa' by his children and grandchild, Gilles was a kind, brave, quiet, hardworking, independent, easygoing, humble and courageous man who inspired those around him to face life's challenges with vehemence and strength.

A visitation to be held at Wartman Funeral Home, Napanee on Saturday, April 15th from 2-4pm.

Thank you so much for being part of this day to honor Papa’s life. While today is a profoundly sad one, even in this time of grief, we must reflect on the many wonderful experiences that I - and the rest of you - shared with my dad, your uncle, your brother, your cousin, your friend. I’m honored to have the opportunity to reflect on Gilles’ life with you today and I want to take this opportunity to share the fondest memories that many of you have shared with me.

When Gilles was a child, his sisters told me how he exhibited great building skills even from a young age. When they were young, he gathered up some wood from around the property and built a snow plow for the family. In order to get it to work, he had to manually push it while running to ensure it functioned like a real one. He made paths for his sisters and brother to walk on from the house to other buildings on the farm. He also built a small rabbit hutch in the family's orchard to house his rabbits before selling them. These events alone demonstrate his entrepreneurial drive and determination, even as a young child. I remember that he built a sleeper cabin onto the back of our pick up truck so my brother and I had somewhere to sleep on our drive up to Florida. It was a highly illegal situation and not to mention, extremely unsafe, but Papa was determined to get to Florida as quickly as possible so if that meant throwing the kids in a 3 foot wide wooden box to sleep and peeing in bottles to make it there in 24 hours, then that’s the way it was going to be. When we lived in Cloyne, he built a trailer, disguising it as a work expense, but really it was to transport his new snowmobile and equipment from place to place. Unfortunately, while Papa was working in the trailer, a kerosene heater tipped over and a fire quickly spread. He had to run through flames to save himself but wasn’t able to save his brand new Polaris snowmobile or the trailer he worked so hard to build.

When his sister Lyne was little, Papa had to babysit her occasionally. Lyne can remember him making her desserts and taking her for many rides on their snowmobile. As a teenager, apparently Gilles was popular with the ladies, and he knew it. This was also when he discovered his joy of music by using the metal coffee table as a drum set, only to later discover that he preferred to play the guitar and sing. He often played “House of the Rising Sun” and “Bee Bop a Lula” and “Hanky Panky” but especially loved impersonating Elvis, often singing “Hound Dog”.

Papa was fearless, and sometimes even impulsive. He loved to go fast. As a young adult, he bought a small motorboat where his passion for speed and racing became evident. He loved to outrun all the other boats to get to his destination first. His family had so many good times with that boat. They used to water ski all summer, attempting three-story water ski pyramids, and Gilles was the best driver for it. He also enjoyed water skiing himself at Shabomeka Lake, but usually barefoot without skis. Later in his life, he even got into drag racing with his brand new yellow and black Dodge Demon. He was a good driver of all things with a motor, eventually channeling his passion for racing and speed into snowmobile races all over Quebec and Ontario. He eventually won his Class Championship at the Ontario Snowmobile Racing Federation in Alliston Ontario. His talents were obvious in our family home with the large trophy and medal display we had in our basement growing up.

More than a risk taker and a need for speed type of guy, Gilles also had a generous soul to his family and friends. Jill Cote can attest to that, recalling the time her grandmother was not well. Gilles drove her and Jean Claude to and from Quebec in the winter because they didn’t have a car. It was during a bad storm and cars were going in the ditch all over the place, but he drove straight through with no problem at all. He was helpful to his dear friends Albert and Susie Hawley, assisting them with their garden and renovating their home. His clear-cut generosity shone through with his willingness to teach others how to race snowmobiles and also to teach others his vast knowledge of construction. He even taught me how to smooth mortar between bricks.

Papa was also known for his half-french / half english sayings, some of which have stood the test of time and are still used today. When I was a kid, he would make us “puff corn” at night to watch movies. He always told us to “close the light” or that he made “De best dam hamburg in Napanee”. My aunt Donalda and Uncle Jeff still use one of his sayings today. The saying came about after he crashed in one of his snowmobile races. He explained the crash by saying “I hit a piece of chunk and could do noting”. To this day, they will use the saying “hit a piece of chunk” if they’re riding their 4-wheelers in the backcountry.

Il a expliqué l'accident en disant "I hit a piece of chunk and could do noting.".

Gilles' work ethic was undeniable. He loved to keep busy, a trait he has passed down to myself. Brick laying, basement foundations, stone fireplaces and drywall were among his specialties and he was often praised by his customers for these skills. Even to this day, I have people around town tell me about what my dad built for him and how incredible a job he did. Because he was such a workhorse, my mom would sometimes have to go and help him with mixing cement and carrying blocks since it was often the only way she would get to spend time with him.

He easily earned the respect of my Aunt Angie and Uncle Ken when Gilles would stay over at Angie’s dorm in Kingston while she was going to university. He was working just a few minutes away at the construction site for the new Kingston Psychiatric Hospital. He would always be gone hours before the time university students got out of bed, and arrive later in the day, hours after university students had gotten home. Angie and Ken would meet Gilles at the job site to make the travel connections. Repeatedly, when they got to the job site, they would find Gilles speaking with a fellow worker, which would be followed by pouring through a multipage blueprint, which lead to the worker heading off to resolve some issue. On a number of occasions, if there weren’t others lined up to speak with Gilles, the conversation would lead to him disappearing into the construction jungle to solve problems. Most job site hard hats are yellow, the words on Gilles white hard hat explained it all. On it was written, “Trouble Shooter”.

The indisputable ambition and drive Papa had can be illustrated in the memory my Aunt Angie has of Gilles being able to convince her and my uncle Ken to drive down to Florida. Apparently it was a special torture test but Gilles led the way and showed them it could be done. Also, he was able to show them the fabulous times they could have together in Florida, building sandcastles, cooking the fish he caught, and Christmas caroling in Bay Pines Park. He was always up for an adventure and didn’t hesitate to take on a new challenge. My mom has great memories of traveling with Papa to Jamaica, where free drinks were much appreciated, followed by trips to the Bahamas and Puerto Villarta.
I can thank my dad for inspiring my ambition and desire for adventure. From carrying me on his shoulders, to teaching me how to make his family crepe recipe, to taking me out to the camp to teaching me how to fourwheel and snowmobile by simply throwing me on to try it for myself. My dad even taught me how to drive his pick up truck on the road into the camp. I don’t even think I was 12 years old yet, but he trusted me behind the wheel.

While he was ambitious and adventurous he also enjoyed laying low, relaxing on the beach getting an epic suntan, or heading over to Jean Claude and Jill’s house to watch the Habs crush the Bruins and to sit and play Euchre.

My dad had a bold sense of humour as well. One such example is when he won the $1000 cash prize at the Lions Club fundraiser in Flinton. When it came down to the last two contestants, he made a deal with the other person to share the prize. When he won, he took the $1000 bill and tore it in have, giving it to the runner up as promised. Apparently it was quite the scene when they had to bring both pieces of the bill into the bank to properly split the cash.

Papa was a modest man, a man of simplicity and kindness. Even in his last month of life, any time a nurse or doctor would ask him how he was feeling, he consistently repeated the words “not too bad”. Papa, I’m going to miss our weekly coffee outings, I’m even going to miss doing your laundry every week and I’m undoubtedly going to miss seeing you in your apartment window watching me drive away so you could wave goodbye to me. Papa was still waving his goodbyes in his last days, when Jean Guy came to visit for the last time, bidding him adieu with a gentle wave of his right hand.

Sure, it’s fair to say Papa was dealt a tough deck of cards, and while he struggled with serious mental health issues, it does not define who he was and we shouldn't let it. He needs to be remembered for his ambition, his drive, his work ethic, his generosity, his humour, his warm, bright smile, his patience, his gentleness, his quiet yet content demeanor, his modesty. Gilles was a big part of all our lives and we have precious, timeless memories to prove it. In navigating this loss, it's important for us to remember how much richer our lives have been as a result of our relationship with him.
