Colin and Brenda Wartman

Co-owners - Funeral Director and Crematorium/Aquamation Operator

I grew up at the family funeral home. Our family lived in the back of the funeral home so it was always "hands on”. When I turned 12 years old, my dad bought me a suit and put me to work, which included answering the phone (no cell phones or answering services in those days!), washing cars and keeping the facilities tidy, to going out and helping with body transfers. I did this all through high school and part-time during university. I studied engineering post secondary but ultimately received my funeral directors license and bought the business from dad in 1988. My wife Brenda (a Chartered Accountant whom I met at high school) and I raised our 3 children (Ryan, a Funeral Director.; Melissa a Marine Biologist and Emily, a civil engineer) in and around the family funeral home. I belong to the United Church of Canada, the Rotary Club and I am a Mason. I have been involved with hospice, the community foundation, school advisory board and many other community initiatives. I love to sail, ski, golf and work around the house and my business.

Ryan Wartman

Co-owner, Funeral Director and Crematorium/ Aquamation Operator

Ryan, like his father and grandfather, was raised in the funeral home family business and as such this was part of his daily routine from an early age. He completely understands the commitment to the families he serves. Ryan received his FD license in 2013 after obtaining a business degree from the University of Ottawa. It was at the University of Ottawa that Ryan met his wife Nancy Cornish, an accredited Urban Planner. Ryan has been involved with Hospice Kingston for the past few years and he and Nancy enjoy the many organized sports that the greater Kingston and Napanee area have to offer. Those who have interacted with Ryan on a professional basis consistently volunteer compliments on his professionalism, approachability and his ability to treat people like they are family yet still offer the guidance necessary during a difficult time.
