Obituary for Veronica Jessie Shiner (Norman)

Veronica Jessie Shiner; beloved Wife to Roy Shiner, cherished Mother to Sandra de la Chevotiere (Duane), Diane Kapitan (Steve) and Karen Shiner (Mark), admired Grandmother to Matthew Kapitan (Ria), Amanda de la Chevotiere (Neil), Jennifer Consitt (Stephen), Jazmin Shiner (Blake) and Revel Charette, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Friend passed away Wednesday, October 19th surrounded by her loving family.

The story of such a multi-faceted and talented woman cannot easily be summed up in such few words. Her life, much like the depth of the love that she gave, was far greater than can be imagined and those who knew her will miss her dearly.

Born on August 2nd, 1934 in Sommerset, England to Elizabeth (Green) and Geoffrey Norman, Veronica was the strong-willed and tenacious youngest daughter of the family. Growing up, Veronica loved to spend time with her brother Jeff and sisters on the farm helping with the animals, driving the tractor and getting into the kind of trouble she would fondly describe as ‘childish fun’.

At the young age of 15 she met Roy, who, in every sense of the word, can confidently be proclaimed as her ‘forever love’. As he saw her from the bus walking her bicycle in the opposite direction, he assured those nearby that she would someday be his wife. And though it took him a couple of tries to secure her heart, she was, in fact, the girl he would marry someday. At 20 that claim proved to be true and the two wed, sharing their life and love for a total of 73 wonderful years, 67 of which they were married.

During their time together Veronica and Roy would grow their family with 3 girls of their own, who in turn provided the love of 3 spouses, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom she blessed with a lifetime of knowledge, a warm shoulder and unwavering support.

Veronica was best known as a “Jill-of-all-trades”, a tongue-in-cheek skill she ultimately passed down multiple generations, happily cheered on and encouraged throughout her years. Her skillset housed many talents including, but not limited to, working as a bicycle repair technician, a Caregiver through the Red Cross, a professional Baker, and a Truck Driver. Never one to turn down an opportunity, Veronica’s ambition and steadfast attitude allowed her to meet any challenge thrown her way.

Not only did her talents lend themselves to her entrepreneurial pursuits, but they also presented themselves throughout her many hobbies such as painting, making cakes and cultivating her beautiful garden, just to mention a few.

Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on through those she held dear and she will continue to be loved and missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, TBD.
