Obituary for Shirley Irene Emby (Jacobsen)

Emby; Shirley Irene (nee Jacobsen) - Passed away peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on Monday, April 6, 2020 in her 85th year. She was born in Plattsburg, N.Y. on December 5, 1935. Predeceased by her cherished husbands, Herbert V Spurrell in 1968 & Ralph G Emby in 2015. Loving mother to Brenda Spurrell of Picton, Brian Spurrell of Tweed, Michael Spurrell of Mountain Grove, the late Wayne Spurrell, Mark Spurrell (Margaret) of Richmond Hill, Star Emby of Belleville and the late step-son Timothy Emby. Shirley will be fondly remembered by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eleanor Durocher of the Plattsburg Area, NY, was her sister and best friend whom shared their lives together. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Jess and Leona Jacobsen (nee Parrotte) and her siblings Mary Jane Conway of Orlando, FL and Peter Jacobsen of Plattsburg, NY.

Her hobbies include sewing, quilting, playing card games and listening to country gospel music. She started learning about computers at the age of 60 and by 65, she was programming C++. She found great comfort and encouragement from her church community. She had many diverse jobs in her life including working in a shoe factory, cleaning in a motel, being a PSW & a cashier, a homemaker and she operated a dairy farm with her husband.

The family of Shirley Emby would like to thank everyone for the love and support shown to us during the loss of our loved one. A special thank you goes out to the following people that looked after her physical and spiritual needs as she battled with cancer: nurses in Kingston & Belleville General Hospital Sills Wing, palliative nurse Victoria, Care Partners, Pastor Ken Babcock, Pastor Hal York & brothers and sisters in Yarker Methodist Church & Hastings Park Bible Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wartman Funeral Home - Napanee Chapel. There will be a private family inurnment in Newburgh Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be made by cheque or credit card to a charity of your choice. Online by condolences at www.wartmanfuneralhomes.com
