Peter John Cruji
March 24, 1946 – January 31, 2023

Peacefully at Lennox and Addington County Hospital surrounded by his family, Peter passed at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Peter is the devoted husband of Katharine (nee Cole) for 55 years and is the cherished father of Nicole Cruji (David Morris), Marc (Janet) Cruji and Colin (Janice) Cruji. Beloved grandfather to Douglas, Meredith, Megan, Braeden, Nick and Alex. Pete will be missed by his siblings, Adrienne, Michael (Sandra) and Richard (Margaret) and predeceased by his treasured mother Edna.
Pete’s 40-year policing career began in 1967 when he was hired by the Napanee Police Force. Promoted to Napanee’s Chief of Police in 1976, he became Ontario’s youngest Police Chief at the age of 29. Pete became a Detective Sergeant with the OPP first posted to Kingston/South Frontenac in 1989 then transferred to the Intelligence Branch/Investigation & Enforcement Bureau in Toronto in 1995.
Known for his big smile and friendly “G’Day!”, Pete devoted his life to his family, loved classic cars and the much-anticipated friendly banter of his weekly Euchre game.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 11am- 2pm at Wartman Funeral Home, Napanee. A private family service to be held at a later date.
