Obituary for Peggy Rice

Rice; Peggy - Peggy Rice passed away peacefully December 22, 2019 at the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital in Napanee at the age of 71. She is survived by her husband, Wayne, and two children, Jamie and Alyson.

Peggy contributed in so many ways over the almost 50 years she was part of the Napanee area community. She was a longtime teacher and principal, from Bath, Sandhurst and Amherst Island to Napanee and Selby to Tamworth, Enterprise and Cloyne. The many years and many students led to frequent smiles when running errands around town. Many turns down a grocery store aisle were paused by an impromptu visit that started with “Mrs Rice, do you remember me?”

“Retirement” saw her shift to being a busy volunteer, especially with the L&A County General Hospital. Whether interacting with patients as a front line volunteer, programming the cash register at the volunteer shop, fundraising for the Foundation, or chairing a Hospital Board meeting, she would always put up her hand to say yes to helping. She was happy to be able to return closer to home near the end. She and her family are grateful for the kindness and support from the hospital staff.

Peggy touched the lives of many. She will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends at Wartman Funeral Home in Napanee from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Friday, December 27, 2019. A small funeral mass will take place at St Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church in Centreville at 2:30pm on Saturday, December 28, 2019.

If friends wish, memorial tributes may be made by cheque or credit card to the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation or by cheque only to the Limestone Learning Foundation. On-line condolences at www.wartmanfuneralhomes.com.
