Labutong, Lourdes Castelvi Ortiz - Retired Registered Nurse.
Our hearts are saddened to announce the death of our beloved Mom, Lourdes, age 78, who passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 8, 2023. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She moved to Canada in 1966 to start a new life as a nurse and to provide for her family in the Philippines. Her husband of 51 years, Manuel, who loved her so much he followed her to Canada to start a new life together, preceded her in death in 2018.
Lourdes was a dedicated mother and wife first and foremost. She treasured her daughters and faithfully prayed for them. She had a quiet, yet strong faith. Her daughters would often catch her praying in her room, or reading her Bible. These quiet examples of faith were seeds that were planted in her daughters.
She cherished her role as Lola/Yaya. Her grandchildren were her joy, as evidenced by the happiness our children would experience each time they visited with her.
Lourdes was one of the first nurses from the Philippines to work in Canada in 1966. She began her nursing career at Kington General Hospital and then continued her work at Kingston Psychiatric Hospital where she retired in 1998. Lourdes was always remembered as a hard working and dedicated nurse, a kind employee and co-worker and a caring and compassionate advocate for those she cared for.
Words such as virtuous, loving, hospitable, understanding, supportive, self-less, generous, kind, gentle-hearted have been used to describe our Mom.
Much loved mother of Lory-Ann Thompson (Greg) and Aileen Diment (Stephan). Cherished Lola/Yaya of Jordan, Caleb, Nathan and Grace.
Dear sister of Cecilia Orprecio (Andres), Hermogenes Ortiz (Mina), Antonio Ortiz (Daisy), Virgilio Ortiz and Osmana Mercado (Francis). Lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Wartman Funeral Home- Kingston Chapel on Thursday, March 16th, 2023 from 4-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Friday, March 17th, 2023 at 10:30 AM. Interment at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens to follow the service. A reception at Wartman Funeral Home Reception Centre will follow the burial. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Alzheimer Society of KFL&A.
