He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Joyce Mayhew, his children Virginia Mayhew (Greg Millard) Janet Hendrikse (Jan Hendrikse) and his grandchildren Connor, Claire, Emma and Jan Douglas. Dear brother to Peter Mayhew of Christchurch New Zealand.

John was a Jeweller/ Gemologist and opened Mayhew Jewellers in Kingston in 1960. In 1996 he took over his father’s long-standing jewellery business in Napanee and ran it until retirement in 2010.

He was known for his commitment to giving back to his community. Through his involvement with Rotary, he helped to initiate the Rankin Inlet project and was instrumental in sending backpacks loaded with supplies for young people in this Northern community.

John was known for his generosity and kindness and always had a big smile when he greeted people. He had a humour filled nature and he usually had a good joke or a story.
