It is with great sadness that the family of Mike Connal announce his passing on Monday, October 14, 2019, at the age of 88 years. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Ursula, and his children; Ann (Bruce), David (Tamara), and grandson Kelly. Mike’s family is comforted that they were by his side in his last moments.
Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family and friends knew him as a passionate, lifelong sailor, and a lover of food and drink (particularly his home brewed beer). He loved to listen to classical music and opera and he was a fervent debater.
A passionate sailor, Mike meticulously built two sailboats and his craftsmanship and passion shone though in every detail. His pride and joy was his Ben Varrey. Mike lovingly built her beside the family home despite the neighbours’ raised eyebrows. We are grateful that the adventures of Ben Varrey will sail on with his daughter, Ann, at the helm.
Mike was an active member of Christ Church Cataraqui. Post-retirement, he put his substantive engineering expertise to use by leading the building of the new church - he was so proud of the contributions he was able to make to the community.
More than anything, Mike valued relationships, he lived a full life, and his infectious passions will be missed by all. The family is planning a celebration of life in the near future.
