Alexander Thompson; Paul Meredith Ivan died suddenly in Lunenburg, NS on Friday, November 15th, 2019 at the age of 61.
Ivan is survived by his cherished wife Brenda of Lunenburg, NS. Loving father of Mackenzie and Fraser. Ivan will be missed by his mother Patricia O’Meara Thompson of Kingston, brothers Mark (Bernadette Ridley) of Southbank, BC, Sean (Karen) of Kingston, ON, Philip (Mary Helen) of Toronto, ON and David (Jenifir) Thies-Thompson of Ottawa, ON and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Dr. Trevor Thompson (Kingston, ON) and grandparents Trevor and Mary Thompson and Fitzpatrick and Florence O’Meara.
Ivan was born on April 24th, 1958 in Vancouver, BC. He lived in Burns Lake, BC, before the family moved to Portugal and Kenya until they settled in Oak Bay, Victoria in 1972. He graduated from Oak Bay High School and attended University of Toronto in Music Performance. He was an accomplished and passionate violinist. After graduating from U of T, he started his work with the Toronto Symphony where he worked for more than 30 years.
After he left the TSO, the family moved to Lunenburg where he loved the quaint village and the ocean. He enjoyed walking near the ocean with his beloved Duck Tolling Retriever, Bonnie.
A Celebration of Life and Music will be held Sunday, November 24th, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm with words at 2:30 pm, at Wartman Funeral Home - Kingston Chapel, 980 Collins Bay Rd, Kingston, ON K7M 5H2. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ivan’s life and love of music. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Mental Health Association or The Joe Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library would be appreciated by the family.
