I was one of Hugh's (and Bill Higginson's) students at MacArthur College of Education in 1976-77. I had a great first teaching round but had a really bad interaction with my associate teacher on my second. So much so, that, forlorn and shaken, I almost withdrew. Hugh counseled me, encouraged me, and arranged for a special teaching opportunity the following January that restored my confidence and my love of/commitment to teaching. I have had a wonderful career at Parkside High School in Dundas and the University of Guelph. I can't overstate Hugh's positive influence on me.

Thanks, teach. Rest in peace.

Lost touch with Hugh over the past few years, but still remember his friendship and support during my first years at the Faculty of Education as I struggled with teaching in a new setting and completion of a doctorate.

To Hugh's family , I am so sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. I was a friend of a long time ago. He was a wonderful man, kind and just an all round good person that anyone would be glad to have as a friend. My heart goes out to his wife and family. Keep your wonderful memories and good times with Hugh. June (Cross) Heaton.

Many people pass through our lives. Then you meet a few of them that are truly kindred spirits. Hugh , our dearest friend was a true kindred spirit for the last 25 years. We have shared many wonderful times talking, eating & of course raising a glass or two . lots of lively discussions have taken place around the kitchen table. We will miss all of these things & more. Rest in peace Hugh. Drop in & see us whenever you desire. Lol!!!! Big hugs to Ruth & all of Hughs family & friends. lots of love from PEI: Jacques & Paulette
