Obituary for Helen Cecelia Hanley

Hanley; Helen Cecelia

This Musical Lady was called home to her Heavenly Father on August 28, 2022. A devoted wife to pre-deceased husband, Basil “Buzz” Hanley. Loving mother of Anne Hanley, Gerard and Anne (nee Brennan), Dan, Laverne and Sandra (nee Garofalo), and Jeanine Hanley Bell. Helen will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Mary, James, Connor, Michaela, Julia, Kaylyn, Larissa, and Joseph. Fondly remembered by her surviving siblings, Anna Corrigan (late Bernard), Jimmy McKenny (Marina), Mary Corrigan (late Pat), Bernice Corrigan (Frank) and sister-in-law Marion McKenny (Leo). She is predeceased by her parents Vince and Charlotte (Freeman), her siblings Margaret McGuiness (Ed), Don (Jean), Lorne (Frances), Leo, and Vince (Eileen).

Born in Read, Ontario, Helen was fond of growing up on the family farm and treated many of the animals as her own pets, especially the lambs. She was an avid lover of music and played the piano by ear. She and Buzz enjoyed entertaining at the cottage or at home and could be found many nights playing cards with family and friends or attending the closest dance. With Buzz, Helen was known to host many parties and for several years their place was a popular gathering spot for a late night party after Christmas Midnight Mass.

Her faith and family were her greatest love, being a dedicated and long-time parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Amherstview, and was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League in Kingston. Her faith was very solid and she had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Visitation will be held at Wartman’s Funeral Home - Kingston at 980 Collins Bay Road, on Wednesday August 31st from 4pm-7pm.

There will be a private Mass Celebrated at St. Linus Catholic Church in Bath with burial to follow.
In memory of Helen, contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society (Kingston) or Campaign Life Coalition.
