Sweet, George - Passed away peacefully at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre on Friday, March 24, 2020 at the age of 60. The City of Kingston lost a staple feature in it’s downtown core today. Anyone who has walked past Starbucks on Princess St. has probably seen George sitting in his wheelchair with his sign on his lap panning to help make ends meet in his life. George Sweet, is his full name. He has had a myriad of health issues over the years that finally caught up with him. Although merely 80lbs., George was strong and healthy and weighed in at 260lbs in his yesteryears. George was not the “sweetest” man growing up. He has a history he was not proud of. His father inflicted some physical and emotional wounding that lasted his entire life. We talked about forgiveness much. I believe he was ready to go, simply from exhaustion, battling the system, and all his health problems weighed heavy on him physically and emotionally. His earthly struggles are over. He struggled most of life and was kicked down by people and society over and over again. He has been homeless many times. He was easily taken advantage of. He was quick to give. He had a anger issues he was dealing with. No one is righteous, no not one. He had faith, saving faith. I don’t know if I could do any better than he if I was in his shoes. Life is difficult with no legs below the knees. He did not walk out his faith as he would have liked to. But in many ways he was a man of faith, praying many times for help, crying in his brokenness. George will be missed, not by everyone, but by those that gave him a chance and befriended him. He is survived by 2 sisters and 3 brothers. George was the youngest of 14 siblings. A graveside service will be held at Cararaqui Cemetery on Friday, April 3, 2020 at 10:00 am.
