Obituary for Gary Cyril Reynolds

Reynolds, Gary Cyril (born on 07-15-1943 in Peterborough, Ontario) passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015 from Prostate Cancer at St. Mary's of the Lake, Providence Care Hospital, Kingston. Gary is survived by his wife Katherine (Fitt), brother Robert (Lisa), sister Sandy Reynolds and his children Victoria (Troy), Carol Ann Achtymichuk (Gerald) and Michael Chan Reynolds (Cynthia). Beloved Grandfather to Katharine, John, Michael, David, Caitlin and Mitchell. Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Gary moved around a lot as child. Among the noteworthy places that he lived growing up and schools that he attended are Kirkland Lake, Ontario where he attended Kirkland West Public School in the suburb of Chaput Hughes and Cambridge, Ontario, where he attended Cambridge high school.

He served in squadron 412 of Royal Canadian Air Force stationed at Uplands. He subsequently worked at Allen-Bradley in Cambridge (where he met his wife, Kathy), Linamar Machine in Guelph, King Hydraulic in Woodstock and finally at Alcan Aluminum (Novelis) for 25 years. He finished his career as the Facilities Manager at Alcan's Research Facility in Kingston.

Gary was always open to adventure and new experiences often taking his family with him. These adventures usually started with the statement “Don't worry we'll sit down and talk about it first.” This was usually followed several days later with the statement “Guess where we're going...” Adventures included moving to Oswego, NY, lengthy vacations in the car, power-boating in the thousand islands, Rideau waterway and the Trent Severn Waterway and especially motorcycling. He and Kathy travelled the length and width of North America several times from the mile 0 of the Alaskan highway to the tip of Key West and from Cape Breton to Port Harty (Vancouver Island). He was also very active in the motorcycle community belonging to many motorcycle associations over the years, including The Goldwing Road Riders Association, Red Knights Motorcycle Association, Sun Riders, HOG, and the CAV. During the last few years, he enjoyed going on cruises with destinations including the Caribbean, Panama, the Amazon, and the Mediterranean.

Some of Gary's most striking features were his incredible blue eyes, intelligence and sense of humour. He also had a strong sense of family and a strong sense of right and wrong guided by moral compass that placed the values of respect and acceptance above all others. He had a big heart that was full of love for those around him, including friends and family. He would do anything for a friend in need and was often the first to lend a hand to those who needed help.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Wartman Funeral Home "Kingston Chapel" (980 Collins Bay Rd). Cremation has already taken place. A special thank-you to the nurses at Providence Care, who helped care for him during his final days. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are requested in lieu of flowers.
