Obituary for David Andrew Pickstock

David Pickstock: 1956 - 2022
Passed away at Kingston Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
He was a son, a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle and a best friend. He was also a husband. Divorced and separated from Jane, his wife of seventeen years, he lived a solitary life, never falling out of love with the mother of his daughters. The world has lost a sensitive and artful man whose talents were known only to his closest friends and family. Those who knew David knew two things: he loved life and he liked his music loud. The louder, the better.

Today I said goodbye to my brother, my friend and my fishing buddy. A loyal member of Local 95 of the International Heat & Frost Insulators Union, he worked with his dad on many projects across Canada. Pre-deceased by his parents, George & Muriel Pickstock; survived by his daughters and his sons-in-law, Nicole and Larry, and Candice and Chris. Survived also by his grandchildren, Chase, Cayla, Kirsten, Jacob, Marissa and Evan, his sister, Julie and Tom, her husband, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and me, his older brother George, and my wife, Vicki.

We all love Uncle Dave. He was an artist who made paintbrushes sing. He loved to build and fly model airplanes. He could cook like Gordon Ramsay, and there wasn’t a Walleye in the Bay of Quinte that was safe when he was on the water. He had a soft side and an uncanny ability to quell the most heated of arguments—most often between people he loved. I can’t count the number of times he would lean forward, look one or both in the eye and say, “You are very angry, are you?” Followed by a big cheesy grin, backed up with a large gulp of his favourite beverage. We couldn’t stay mad. We’d laugh and drink and love each other, share stories and tall tales, tell lies and truths and walk away better for the experience. His friends loved him, his family cherished him, and we miss him already. Taken too soon, Heaven has claimed a beautiful soul and the volume just got louder. Crank her up, Davey. Rest in the peaceful arms of mum and dad.
