Obituary for Clifford Wellington Thompson

Thompson, Clifford Wellington
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Clifford Thompson on August 16th, 2022 at the age of 87. Loving husband of the late Margaret (nee Farrell), and father of Mark (Mary), Anne, and Kathie. Cherished granddad of Drew (Alie), Kevin, Maya, Liam, and Piper, and great-granddad of Xander, Kaelen, and Oliver. Predeceased by parents Gordon and Delma (nee Monds) Cronk, siblings Reta and Walter Thompson, in-laws Francis and Elizabeth (nee Whalen) Farrell, Mary (nee Farrell), and Gerald Kerby, and Dan McAvoy. Survived by sister Elsie Warren (late Jim), and brother Arthur (Maureen), sister-in-law Maureen (nee Farrell) McAvoy and brother-in-law Frank Farrell (Judy), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cliff was born in Arden, ON and grew up on the family farm on Price Road in Mountain Grove. He worked road construction with the MTO and the City of Kingston for many years before moving to the private sector, retiring in 1992. Dad was a naturalist who had an encyclopedic knowledge of birds, animals, and plants, and shared this knowledge to those around him. The snowy owl sighting was a family legend. Dad instilled in us a strong work ethic, integrity, and honesty. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was always active. He loved to be on the water, boating, water-skiing, and fishing, and no deer was safe during hunting season. Dad took us camping every summer and in later years, he and mom drove their motor home south for the coldest winter months.
Thank you to the wonderful staff on Lilac Terrace at Fairmount Nursing Home for your gentle care of Dad in his final few years.
