FOX, Alfred Basil Norman

Passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Bayshore Transitional Care. Forever loved by his wife of 64 years, Jean. Father of Stephen(Mary), Susan, Lesley(Rob), and Chris(Ruth), cherished grandfather of Heather (Chris), Carrie(Toby), Laura(Adam), Derek(Amra), Talitha(Andrew), Graham(Gayatri), Andrew(Chris), and predeceased by his parents Mervyn and Susan, and by his grandson Trevor. Basil was a great grandfather to Alice, Gabriel, and Lillian. He was a brother to Neville(Mary), the late Leslie(Nancy), the late Hyacinthe(late Arthur), the late Adrian(Esther), and the late Edgar. He was a dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Basil was born on January 6, 1935 in Dublin, Ireland. He immigrated to Canada in 1957, meeting the love of his life "wee Jeanie" at the Tartan Club in Hamilton. Basil was an employee of Guardian Insurance, rising through the ranks to the Executive level, retiring in 1996. Basil was known for his quick wit, his incredible ease with numbers, crosswords, and jumbles, and his superior athleticism as a lightweight boxer, a soccer coach, an avid golfer, the fastest walker alive, and a lover and lifelong fan of Manchester United, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Toronto Blue Jays. Community service was important to Basil, and he served on many church, condominium, and business committees in positions of considerable leadership.
Basil took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children and his grandchildren.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Bayshore Transitional Care for their support of Basil in his final year.
