Obituary for Catharine Winnifred Hunter (Hayden)

HUNTER, Catharine Winnifred (nee Hayden)
June 6, 1936 – September 6, 2019

On September 6, 2019, with Art her beloved husband of 62 years by her side, Cathy Hunter lost her battle at Lennox & Addington County Hospital. Cathy had a large extended family and a huge network of friends. She was a long-time
volunteer and had been a board member of the Community Care Access Centre. She also played a part in the creation of the Napanee Seniors Outreach Centre, the Volunteer Centre and the Stone Mills Recycling Program. Cathy was a respected free-lance reporter and columnist whose byline graced the pages of local newspapers, as well as the pages of the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. She co-authored the book, "A History of Golf in Napanee From 1897."

Her most cherished role was as wife to Art and mother to her three children, Christine, Gord (Ginette) and Jeannie (Christopher) and Grandma to Shannon, Daniel and Duncan. She is survived by her brothers Bill Hayden (Susan) and Joseph Hayden (Carol) sisters Patricia Sanderson (Arnold), Susan McKinnon (Ron), as well as dozens of much-loved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Ann, Bob, Margaret, Joan, John and Eddie as well as her parents
Charles and Jean Hayden. The family would like to thank the staff of the L&A County Hospital especially Drs. Matthews and Sloan and nurses Rodica, Jessica, Michelle, Carolyn and Katie. The family has asked for no flowers and in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre in Napanee – a place that Cathy loved - or the LACGH Foundation which funded the equipment used so many times to prolong her life.

Friends and family can join us for a memorial service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Napanee on September 13th at 11:00am with a short reception to follow.
