Veltheer; Gail (nee McMahon) - It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Gail Cecilia Veltheer (nee McMahon) on September 26, 2017. Gail was born in Vancouver, BC to Edward and Valeria McMahon. As an army brat, Gail lived all over Canada before starting her vocational training at the “old” Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, AB, in 1961 at the age of 18. Under the tutelage of the Sisters of the Misericord of Montreal, Gail completed the three years of classes and on-the-job training that led her to a lifetime defined by helping others and unbelievable kindness to all. Gail was the true definition of what it means to be a nurse – a nurse in work and a nurse in life. In addition to being a loving daughter to Ed and Val, she was a loving wife to Peter, a loving sister to William (Bill) and Michael, a loving mother to John and Kristin, and a loving grandmother to Tyler, Austin, Avery, Stephanie and Mattias. She was also a loving friend, aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousin, co-worker, and nurse to so many others. A special thank you to all the friends, colleagues and medical staff who offered their assistance and love in Gail’s final months. Gail tirelessly served many doctors, fellow nurses and patients throughout her life. It was her wish to personally thank those who served her so tirelessly and faithfully these past five months. You know who you are, and our family will never forget your contributions. Gail gave and gave and gave. She asked little in return. We ask that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either the Lennox & Addington General Hospital Foundation (web.lacgh.napanee.on.ca/waystogive) or the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca).The family will receive friends at the Wartman Funeral Home - Napanee Chapel on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 5-7 pm.
