Obituary for Gwenythe Bartlett "Gwen" Dillenbeck (Gourlie)

DILLENBECK, Gwenythe Bartlett "Gwen" (nee Gourlie) – With great sadness her family announces Gwen's sudden death at her residence on Saturday March 11, 2017 in her 89th year. Along with her brother the late Keith Gourlie (who would marry the now late Betty Jackson), Gwen had fond memories of growing up in the Selby general store run by her parents Gladys and Harry Gourlie. After attending Normal School in Peterborough, she taught in a number of one-room schools in the Napanee area. Gwen married her beloved Hubert and they built a bungalow on their Little Creek Street farm where they raised their children, David, Beverly and Grant. Gwen was known to many through her years of working at the Napanee Sears order office. Following Hubert's sudden death after 33 years of marriage, Gwen eventually sold the farm and bought a home on Queen Street where she lived happily and independently until moving into the Riverine in 2015. Her many travels included trips to warm climates with Hubert, and later with her caring companion, the late Zeph Gaudreau, in addition to a number of other friends. Gwen appreciated the love and support she received from her children and their spouses, Heather, Jerry and Ruth. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Nathan, Kristin, Justin, and Adam, and was never happier than when spending time with her great-grandchildren Emmett, Erik, Mae, Davis, Harrison, Cecelia, Carson, and Lauren, who affectionately called her "G.G." She will also be greatly missed by her nephews, nieces and many friends. Grace United Church and the UCW were also a very important part of Gwen's life. Gwen will be fondly remembered for her life well lived. The family will receive friends at the Wartman Funeral Home "Napanee Chapel." on Tuesday April 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesday April 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A service celebrating her life will be 2pm.. Interment Riverside Cemetery. Friends desiring may contribute by cheque to Grace United Church. On-line condolences at www.wartmanfuneralhomes.com
